Edit Menu

Description: The Edit menu items are used to manipulate text in behavior editors (such as Visual AgenTalk formulae and attribute or method names).

The commands found in the Edit menu are common to many Macintosh programs and are described below.

Undo

The Edit | Undo menu option undoes your most recent edit. For example, if you have just deleted a word, choosing Edit | Undo replaces the word; if you have just pasted some text in a place you don't like, choosing Edit | Undo cuts that text from your document.
Cut

The Edit | Cut menu option cuts any highlighted text from the active text window and copies it to the clipboard. Text that has been cut is removed from the active window.
Copy

The Edit | Copy menu option copies any highlighted text from the active text to the clipboard. Copied text is not removed from the active window.
Paste

Text that has been placed on the clipboard can be placed in other text windows (or other parts of the same window) using the Edit | Paste menu option.
Clear

The Edit | Clear menu option clears or removes any highlighted text from the active text window without putting it in the clipboard.
Select All

The Edit | Select All menu option highlights the entire text in the active text window.
Preferences...

The Edit | Preferences... menu option brings up a dialog box which sets up various preferences needed by AgentSheets.

You can get to any of the preference categories by selecting it from the "Preferences" pop-up menu shown below.

The Behavior Exchange preferences, shown below, are preferences for setting up communication with the Behavior Exchange where you can share agents that you create with other AgentSheets users.

Enter the Behavior Exchange server specifications in the Behavior Exchange Server URL text box. Currently, the Behavior Exchange server is at "agentsheets.cs.colorado.edu".

Email preferences, shown below, allow you to define your e-mail address and SMTP server used for sending e-mail within the AgentSheets application. Currently, these are not yet used in AgentSheets but will be in the future for features such as sending projects to friends via e-mail.

Enter a valid SMTP Host that can be used to send email. Check the e-mail application you are using (such as Eudora or Outlook Express) for the SMTP server setting.

Enter your User Name, that is the first part of your email address. For example, if your email address is "somebody@agentsheets.com", "somebody" is your user name.

Dialog preferences, shown below, are preferences for showing various AgentSheets dialogs.

Check the first checkbox if you want to be asked whether to open a readme file every time a project is being opened - assuming a readme file exists.

Check the second checkbox if you want to confirm the closing of the current project when you open another project with one already opened. This is to prevent accidental closing of projects.

Ristretto preferences, shown below, are used to select options for the Java applet generated by Ristretto. For further information on AgentSheetes' Ristretto Java generator, please see the Ristretto section in the Getting Started manual.

The first two checkboxes shown in the first part of the dialog are general Ristretto preferences. Check the first checkbox if you wish to open the generated applet in a Web browser upon completion of the generation. Check the second checkbox if you wish to run the applet as soon as it is loaded in the Web browser. This is useful if you decide not to include the simulation buttons (see Simulation Control section below).

There are Ristretto preferences that are specific to different aspects of the applet. You can get to any of the categories by selecting it from the "Applet generation of" pop-up menu shown below.

Worksheet

Ristrettofy front-most worksheet or all open worksheets: when creating an applet with Ristretto, you have the choice to include only the front-most worksheet or all the open worksheets in the generation.

Use the worksheet title: if checked, a title will appear on top of the worksheet in the applet. This title is specified by the Title preference.

Title: Text used as a title for the worksheet in the applet. Default title is "Worksheet".

Toolbar

Show Toolbar: if checked, the worksheet toolbar will appear in the applet.

Select Tool: worksheet tool that will be selected when the applet is loaded. Please note that you can have a tool be selected, even if the toolbar is not shown.

Gallery

Show Gallery: if checked, the gallery will appear in the applet.

Use the gallery title: if checked, a title will appear on top of the gallery (if it is shown) in the applet. This title is specified by the Title preference.

Title: Text used as a title for the worksheet in the applet. Default title is "Worksheet".

Agents

Draggable: if checked, the agents that appear on the worksheet can be dragged using the arrow tool.

Selectable: if checked, the agents that appear on the worksheet can be selected using the arrow tool.

Changeable Depictions: if checked, the agents that appear on the worksheet and the gallery can have their depictions be changed using a right-click with the mouse.

Simulation Controls

Show Buttons: if checked, the simulation buttons (Run, Stop, Step, Reset, Clear) will appear in the applet.

Show Speed Control: if checked, the simulation speed control slider will appear in the applet. This will enable you to slow down or speed up the simulation on a global scale.

Show Message Center: if checked, the worksheet's message area will appear in the applet. The message area is a text box where messages get printed out while the simulation is running. Messages include file loading information and text printed using the Say action in the applet.

Once the preferences are modified as you see necessary, click OK to return to AgentSheets. Click Cancel to exit preference editing without saving the changes.
